About Bmusician

Born into the illustrious Prapancham family of Tanjore, a lineage of Carnatic musicians with over 200 years of tradition, I, Prapancham Surendran, inherited music as a way of life. My grandmother’s mother, Smt. Thunga Bai, was a prolific musician who trained countless students in and around Tanjore. My paternal grandmother, Ammalu Amma of Kumbakonam, was a saint-composer who created more than 2,000 krithis in praise of Lord Vittala. Continuing this legacy, my grandmother Smt. Tanjore V. Prema (Vocalist), my father Dr. Prapancham Ravindran (Mridangist), and my uncles Kalaimamani Dr. Prapancham Sitaram and Kalaimamani Dr. Prapancham Balachandran (Flautists) are all celebrated Carnatic musicians.

From the age of six, I was immersed in the world of rhythm, learning the mridangam and accompanying stalwarts on stage from a young age. By twelve, I had begun teaching mridangam and konnakol, blending tradition with a passion for mentoring the next generation.

Alongside this deep musical upbringing, I pursued academic excellence in technology — graduating from Anna University and earning a Master’s in Technology from Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore. My research and work in top conglomerates and startups gave me the tools to marry heritage with innovation. This unique combination inspired me to take our family’s musical tradition global through Bmusician — a standalone, cutting-edge website and mobile app for learning Indian classical music.

Since its founding in 2015, Bmusician has trained over 5,000 students worldwide under top gurus in various forms of music. Many of our students, such as Narayanan Srinivasan, Saishree Ramkumar, Dharaneesh, Adithya Srinivasan, Srikrishna Sitaraman and many other students who began their journey from scratch on Bmusician, are now performing concerts across the US and India. We take immense pride in having successfully guided five students through their Arangetrams (debut concerts) — a true milestone in their musical journey.
